Seven things

I’ve been tagged by Abigail, so off I go. Seven things you probably didn’t know about me.

1. I dressed up as a giant rubber duck. It was for the Great Capilano Rubber Duck Race, and I even did a dance next to a choir in yellow raincoats. I was 14 I think. I think I did it three times. I got stuck in the doors of a lift, and the visiting language student they left with me to keep me from getting lost couldn’t explain to anyone what had happened.

2. I am a voracious science fiction reader. I’m even working my way through the Nebula Award winners. ‘Genre fiction’ some people sneer, well, I don’t really care. I have loved it since I read Ray Bradbury’s The Illustrated Man when I was 10. Fantasy, not so much. I like spaceships and stuff.

3. I wrote a zine for five years, mostly a proto-blog kind of thing, bits of personal writing. It still turns up on the interweb from time to time (number 96). I had distribution through the US, UK and Canada… you know, by people standing behind trestle tables at indie rock shows. I ran my own table too, back then.

4. I haven’t seen much of my real hair colour since I was 12.

5. I play some instruments, in descending skill order: flute, piccolo, cello, saxophone, recorder, accordion, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, and if pushed, ukelele.

6. My own armpits freak me out so much I can barely touch them.

7. It took me until last year to like baked beans.
